Plug in and heat - electric fireplaces

There are many people who would like their homes to have that cozy atmosphere typically created by the presence of a fireplace. The only problem is that the idea of integrating a fireplace in a house that was not originally conceived to contain one can be discouraging. The changes brought to the structure of the house may not be so ample, but they do involve bricks concrete, and debris.

For those who do not want to go through that, there is a simpler solution available: portable electric fireplaces. Electric fireplaces do not require a chimney and a hearth and they make no mess. Their portability makes it very easy to change the destination of the rooms when redecorating: you can just take them and move them somewhere else. There won't be any flames, of course, but look at the bright side: there's no smoke and soot either.

Moreover, electric fireplaces are usually built so as to come as close as possible to giving the impression of a real fire. Ornamental logs can be added to enhance the effect.

Let's have a look at the main options you have. There is a variety of electric inserts available to those who want to add an electric fireplace to their
apartment.

1. It's Got the Glow and the Crackle Crackling logs, typically made from oak or birch wood, can produce a sound close to the real crackling of wood on the fire. A light bulb placed under them makes them look like glowing embers -- it can even add a flickering effect.

2. Feel the Heat What would a fireplace be without heat? In addition to the visual and sound effects above, a heater under the logs can produce a thermal effect too. There is usually a thermostat to let you adjust the temperature.

3. Putting All Your Coals in One Basket This is quite safe if you're using an electric coal basket. It contains a heater and a light bulb for a fully functional fireplace emulation.

4. Closer to the Real Thing If you already have a fireplace, you can opt for an electric insert. Since the fireplace is already built into the wall, the resemblance with a traditional one is much stronger - at the cost of portability, of course.

While its true that all these will not give you a real fireplace, we cannot overlook the convenience they add to your home. And sometimes the imitation is so close to reality, that the differences are quite difficult to perceive.
